My name is Ethan Thomas, and I serve as the President of the Central Kansas Christian Basketball League (CKCBL). I am reaching out to seek your support for our youth basketball league in Central Kansas. My wife and I have a deep-rooted passion for sports and have established a new league to provide a positive foundation for the youth in our community. Our aim is to encourage youth involvement in sports, emphasizing the valuable life lessons and benefits that come with being part of a structured team. By focusing on fundamental skill development, teamwork, and discipline, we hope to instill lifelong skills that can be applied in various aspects of their lives, all while ensuring an enjoyable experience for the players. There is a great need for young people to become more active. We are passionate about getting our youth more involved in sports, as there are many benefits and important life lessons to be learned from playing on a structured, organized team. Our goal is to help build fundamental skills at a younger age, provide more fast-paced game time, and teach athletes how working together as a team will build life-long skills they can apply in many areas of their lives - all while having fun and enjoying the game! For those reasons, we work with several other volunteers to form this Youth Elementary Basketball League, so that we can collectively build up these future athletes.

 

We are proud to have the commitment of our four original teams and a new school for the upcoming 2024/2025 basketball season. With the support of volunteers and educators from various institutions, we are dedicated to nurturing the talents of young athletes and fostering a sense of community through sportsmanship and teamwork. Our program offers a fantastic opportunity for athletes to increase their playing time and enhance their skills, all while experiencing the excitement of both home and away games. KSHSAA has confirmed that we are fully compliant with their rules and regulations, ensuring that we are on the right path. The advantages of this new league are numerous, including but not limited to:

●  Before every game, prayers are bestowed upon the athletes, coaches, and spectators, while also aiming to share the teachings and love of God across the league and throughout the season.

●  The chance to foster connections between schools, players, coaches, and principals.

●  Younger athletes (basketball & cheerleaders) will gain valuable court time and experience, preparing them for future endeavors in middle and high school. This initiative will also generate a greater interest in athletics within Barton County and the surrounding areas.

●  Provide local high school athletes with the chance to acquire refereeing experience at an earlier stage under the guidance of an experienced referee mentor.

It is important to note that our intention is not to diminish the role of local Recreation Commissions. Instead, we aim to complement their efforts by providing additional experience and playing time for our athletes, while the Recreational teams focus on reinforcing fundamental skills. Our league takes place in the late fall, allowing Recreation Commissions to organize their basketball seasons in the spring, enabling our athletes to participate in both.​
